Who we are at Commence Consulting

We started this firm because too many consultancies sell frameworks and leave before the hard work begins. Our team stays through implementation. We sit beside you in the room where decisions get made, not in a separate office drafting slide decks nobody reads.

Our consultants have backgrounds in finance, operations, supply chain management and digital transformation. Most of us have run our own businesses, so we understand cash-flow pressure, hiring mistakes and the weight of a payroll that arrives every month whether revenue does or not.

We serve owner-managed firms with 10 to 250 employees, typically in manufacturing, professional services, logistics and technology. If your company is growing faster than your systems can handle, or if growth has stalled and you cannot see why, that is exactly where we do our best work.

What we do

Six core consulting services, each designed to produce a measurable result within a defined timeframe.

Financial restructuring

We audit your P&L, identify margin leaks and build a 90-day cash improvement plan. Most clients recover 8 to 15 percent of lost margin within the first quarter. We renegotiate supplier terms, restructure debt schedules and set up rolling forecasts that actually get used.

Operational efficiency

Slow processes cost more than most leaders realise. We map your workflows end to end, time each step, remove bottlenecks and redesign handoffs between teams. A typical engagement cuts cycle time by 20 to 35 percent across order fulfilment, onboarding or production.

Leadership development

Growing companies often promote their best technicians into management roles without any training. We run a 12-week leadership programme for new managers covering delegation, difficult conversations, performance reviews and decision-making under uncertainty.

Digital transformation

We help you choose, configure and roll out the right software for your size. Not the most expensive platform, the right one. CRM selection, ERP migration, workflow automation: we manage the vendor relationship, data migration and staff training so adoption actually sticks.

Growth strategy

Should you expand geographically, launch a new product line, or acquire a competitor? We build financial models for each option, stress-test the assumptions and present a clear recommendation with a timeline. You decide; we give you the numbers to decide well.

Exit planning

If you plan to sell your business within the next two to five years, we prepare it to attract buyers and maximise valuation. That means cleaning up the accounts, documenting processes, reducing owner-dependency and identifying the value drivers a buyer will pay a premium for.

How an engagement works

Four stages, clear deliverables at each gate, no open-ended billing.

Discovery call

A 45-minute video call where we listen. You describe the problem, we ask questions, and we both decide whether there is a fit. No charge, no obligation.

Diagnostic

We spend one to two weeks inside your business: interviewing staff, reviewing data, observing processes. The output is a written diagnostic report with prioritised recommendations.

Implementation

We work alongside your team to execute the agreed plan. Weekly check-ins, a shared project tracker, and a named consultant who picks up the phone when you call.

Review and handover

At the end of the engagement we measure results against the baseline, document what changed, and hand over all tools, templates and training materials. Your team owns everything.

What clients say

"They found £180,000 in annual savings we had completely overlooked. The diagnostic alone paid for the entire engagement three times over. I wish we had called them two years earlier."

— Rachel T., Managing Director, logistics firm

"Our new managers were struggling badly. After the leadership programme, staff turnover in those teams dropped from 34 percent to 11 percent within six months. The confidence shift was visible."

— James K., CEO, engineering services

"They helped us migrate from three separate spreadsheets to a single CRM in eight weeks. Adoption hit 95 percent because they trained every user individually, not just the managers."

— Priya S., Operations Lead, SaaS company

Frequently asked questions

How much does a typical engagement cost?
Most projects fall between £8,000 and £45,000 depending on scope and duration. We quote a fixed fee after the discovery call so there are no surprises. The diagnostic phase is always priced separately, and you can stop after that stage if you choose.
Do you work with businesses outside Scotland?
Yes. About 40 percent of our clients are based elsewhere in the UK. We travel for on-site work and run remote sessions via video. International projects are considered on a case-by-case basis.
How long does a project usually take?
The diagnostic takes one to two weeks. Implementation engagements run from six weeks to six months. We agree a timeline upfront, and if something changes on your side we adjust the schedule rather than billing extra hours.
What industries do you specialise in?
Manufacturing, professional services, logistics and technology companies make up the bulk of our portfolio. We have also worked with hospitality groups, healthcare providers and construction firms. The common thread is companies between 10 and 250 employees facing a growth or efficiency challenge.
Will you replace our existing management team?
No. We work with your people, not instead of them. Our goal is to leave your team stronger and more capable than when we arrived. Every tool, process and template we create becomes yours permanently.
